Who Is It For?

If you have deep pockets, this may be the first chair you check out. The Formula series is relatively narrow, however, so it would be a good option for teenagers or slim adults under 5’8” tall and no more than 180lbs.

What’s Included?

You receive everything you need to assemble the chair. This includes a backrest and seat covered in a strong mesh and PU material. You also receive a five-point star nylon base, lift, and 2” PU casters.

Also included are the headrest and lumbar pillows, plastic moldings, bolts, washers, Allen wrench, and instruction booklet.

Overview of Features

Simplicity may be this chair’s strongest suit. The backrest is relatively high to fully support the spine from hip to head. The headrest pillow and lumbar pillow may provide additional support and are also included.

Keep in mind, however, that this model is meant for “slim to average” body types. According to the official website, the recommended maximum height is 5’ 8” and the recommended top weight is 180lbs.

Does this mean that the chair can’t accommodate bodies that are more or less than the recommendations? Not necessarily. However, bodies that fall within these guidelines may get the best fit.

This DXRacer chair has all the basic capabilities you may expect from a gaming chair. The seat height is adjustable. And it has tilt from 3 to 17 degrees, which is a little more rocking movement than the average chair. You can also lock the chair to keep it from tilting.

Furthermore, the chair can also recline up to 135 degrees. This isn’t fully horizontal, but you may not need to nap in your gaming chair.

In addition, the armrests can be adjusted up and down. However, if you are expecting lateral movement, you won’t find it with this chair. Also, the armrests are relatively narrow. And while that may not be a problem for the slim body types that this chair is designed for, it may be good to know before buying.

Lastly, since many people buy these types of gaming chairs because of the way they look, the FD101 comes in five different color schemes so you will probably find one that suits your needs.

How to Get the Most Out of It

An Alternative

If you like the idea of buying a DXRacer chair, but want something higher up than the Formula series, you may want to check out the Valkyrie series OH/VB03/NW. This chair has the same height and weight recommendations as the FD101 but with some upgraded features.

First, the armrests feature 3D adjustability which means you can move them up and down vertically, as well as forward and backward. This may be a bonus if you are particular about the position of your arms.

In addition, it also has a spider base, 3” PU caster wheels, and a full PU cover. The chair does cost a little more, however, so you may need to decide if the upgrades are worth the cost.

Do you need a larger chair to accommodate your body type? You can try out the King series DOH/KS06/N model by DXRacer. Also called a “Big and Tall,” this gaming chair can accommodate up to 6’2” in height and has a 300lbs weight limit.

Furthermore, this chair also has a few more upgrades for the extra cost, including 90-degree 4D adjustable arms, extra-wide aluminum base, and a carbon vinyl and PU leather cover.

Conclusion

There are plenty of options to choose from within the same brand. But if you need a basic, budget-orientated premium chair, the FD101 by DXRacer may be your best bet. It is relatively inexpensive for a premium gaming chair and still maintains the quality you would expect from DXRacer.

However, if you want more features with the slim design, you may want to check out the Valkyrie series instead. Its price point is a little higher but the chair may be more aesthetically pleasing.

And if chair size is the problem, you can also take a look at the King series. This option is also a little more expensive, but it’s meant to handle a larger body type. It also has some minor upgrades like the 90-degree 4D armrests that you may find appealing.

Ultimately, whether or not to pay more for minor upgrades is really up to you. The most important thing to pay attention to is whether the chair can comfortably accommodate your body type and playing style.
